Turkey and the United States designated strategic framework of economic and commercial relations.

Turkish State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan, the United States Trade Representative Ron Kirk and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke held a press conference on new framework mechanism between the two countries in Washington, D.C..

Babacan said commercial and investment relations were advancing well between Turkey and the United States and there was a potential to boost them.

Regular meetings would take place in Washington, D.C. and Ankara or Istanbul within the scope of framework mechanism, he said.

U.S. Trade Representative Kirk said the first meeting would be held in Washington, D.C. next spring and the following one would take place in Turkey the same year.

Locke said the new mechanism would help to create brand new job fields for both peoples.

Trade volume between Turkey and the United States reached 15 billion U.S. dollars in 2008 and the two countries could improve this figure, Locke said.
