In cooperation with the Association of Turkish Cypriots Abroad (ATCA), the Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA) continued its educational effort on the Cyprus issue with a documentary screening in Congress prior to the 37th anniversary of the Turkey’s intervention.
Produced by ATCA, the documentary titled “Homeland” provided a vivid picture and voice of the Turkish Cypriots, who were subject to Greek Cypriot atrocities during the 1963 – 1974 period.

Prior to the documentary screening, ATAA Past President Gunay Evinch, ATCA USA Representative Emcet Oktay Tas, and Third Secretary, Mustafa Tunc from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Washington Office, addressed the audience of more than forty people about this important issue, which has been ongoing for over three decades. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is currently considered as a “de facto state” and is not formally recognized by the United States. ATAA’s leaderhips and cooperation with ATCA was also important in terms of providing a platform in US Congress for Turkish Cypriots to express their loss, fear and hope about their homeland.
