President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Mehmet Ali Talat, received Wednesday three members of The Elders in Lefkosa. The meeting between President Talat, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and former Algerian Foreign Minister Lakhdar Brahimi lasted around one hour.

Leading the delegation, Desmond Tutu said that they had a very fruitful meeting with President Talat and that the meeting took place in a friendly and warm atmosphere.

Three members of The Elders are in Cyprus between December 8 and 10 to offer their support and encouragement to all those working for the reunification of the island.

The Elders are an independent group of eminent global leaders, brought together by Nelson Mandela, who offer their collective influence and experience to support peace building, help address major causes of human suffering and promote the shared interests of humanity.
