"The World Family Summit +5" to be held in Istanbul from December 4 to 7 will discuss family and empowerment of women, the linchpin of the family, Turkish state ministry for women and family said on Friday.


Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and State Minister for Women and Family Selma Aliye Kavaf will take part at the summit which will also host ministers, other officials and academicians from 105 countries from Spain to Angola.

The World Family Summit +5, encompassing with the decision of the UN ECOSOC to work for the year 2010, the current global and national trends and challenges and their impacts on gender equality and empowerment of women, will discuss how countries, governments, politicians, judicial systems and civil society are approaching the issue, the ministry said in a statement.

A declaration that will reflect the reality of the 21st century regarding gender equality and women's empowerment is expected to be released at the and of the summit, the statement said.
