Turkish President Abdullah Gul and French President Nicolas Sarkozy inaugurated on Friday an exhibition titled "From Byzantium to Istanbul, One Port for Two Continents" held within "Season of Turkey" activities at Grand Palais in Paris. The exhibition which is organized by the Réunion des musées nationaux and IKSV (Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts)(July 2009 ? March 2010) brings together around 300 objects from Turkish, French and international public collections. Later, Gul and Sarkozy got together at a working lunch at Elysee Palace on Friday. French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner and Turkish Deputy Premier Ali Babacan and Chief EU Negotiator Egemen Bagis also attended the lunch. Turkey's goal of EU membership, bilateral relations and regional issues are expected to be discussed during the lunch. President Gul is expected to depart from France today after completing his talks. Turkey is being promoted in 70 cities of France with more than 400 cultural and economic activities within the scope of "Season of Turkey" for nine months.
