Greek Prime Minister and Foreign Minister George Papandreou arrived in Istanbul on Friday.

Papandreou was welcomed by Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport.

Davutoglu and Papandreou had a closed-doors meeting at the airport. The meeting lasted about half an hour.

After his meeting with Davutoglu, Papandreou headed to Greek Orthodox Patriarchate for a visit.

Later in the day, Papandreou will meet Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Greek Prime Minister-elect Papandreou is making his first overseas trip to Turkey on the occasion of the informal meeting of foreign ministers of South-East European Countries Process to begin in Istanbul.

Earlier reports had said Papandreou would make his first visit to Greek Cypriot administration. His visit to Turkey is not a formal one, diplomats said.
